When youth and experience cooperate

Rail Service Net (RSN) was founded in 2004 and specializes in innovative Mobile Rail Solutions. They also provide the maintenance and repairs of wagons and locomotives. To ensure sufficient room for the wagons, RSN owns about 6km of tracks on which the wagons wait for their maintenance. A considerable distance if you have to find the right wagon.

Due to the large distance, RSN urgently needed to simplify the process to localize wagons. They turned to Gitok Kalmthout to find a solution. Two enthusiastic senior students, Robbe and Arno, saw the potential and turned it into their graduate project (GIP).

Robbe and Arno realized that RFID technology would bring the needed relief and started looking for a partner. They contacted Microtron to ask for our knowledge and expertise. At Microtron, we are happy to support students, especially if they bring such a challenging project to our doorstep. Both young men asked Microtron all their questions and received demo equipment to use. Thanks to a good amount of hardware, consultancy and education from Microtron, they turned the project into a fully developed proposal. RSN was so impressed by the solution that they decided to implement it.

Over 200 RFID tags, 8 antennae and 4 RFID readers were purchased to realize this incredible project. The RSN employees can now very easily and quickly find the wagons and locomotives. The great success of this project did not go unnoticed and reached the ATV news for a great news item.
